Vernaculator Privacy Policy
Draft. This policy is a starting point and should be reviewed by a lawyer. Last updated October 22, 2026.
1. Who we are
Vernaculator (vernaculator.app) is run by Shareweaver LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use Vernaculator and what we do with it.
2. What we collect
- What you type or say to translate. Your text is sent to our AI provider to create the translation. We don't store it with your identity, but recent requests may appear in server logs.
- Voice clips. When you tap "Hear it", the text is sent to our voice provider to create audio. Clips may be cached so repeat plays are faster.
- Microphone. If you use speech input, your browser turns speech into text on your device or through your browser's own service. We only receive the text.
- A random device ID stored in your browser, used for votes, daily limits and unlocking purchases. It isn't linked to your name.
- IP address and country, used to apply daily limits, block abuse and decide which features are offered in your country.
- Community submissions (corrections, terms, ratings and votes) you choose to post. These are public.
- The Slam clips. Only if you choose to submit one: the video, its words, the character and the nickname you pick. Approved clips, their comments and nicknames are public and may be posted on our social media pages. We keep your device ID with the clip so you keep your nickname, but never show it.
- Purchases. When you buy Pro or Max, PayPal processes the payment. We receive and keep the order ID, amount, the email on your PayPal account and the restore code we give you. We never see your card or bank details.
- Anonymous usage totals. We count how often each character is played, which words get looked up and which country requests come from (from Cloudflare, by country only). These totals are shown on our public Stats page. They never include your device ID, IP address or what you typed.
- Settings saved in your browser, like day or night mode, your "keep out of my jokes" list and your restore code. These stay on your device.
- My words. The slang words you look up are saved in your browser so you can find them again. If you use "Ask my assistant", your saved words are sent with your question to our AI provider to answer it; we don't store them.
3. Who we share it with
- Anthropic (Claude) to create translations.
- ElevenLabs to create voice clips.
- PayPal to process payments.
- Cloudflare, which hosts the site, stores our data, protects it from bots and gives us simple visit counts (Cloudflare Web Analytics). That analytics uses no cookies, doesn't track you across sites and doesn't get what you type.
We don't sell your personal information.
4. Ads and cookies
Vernaculator doesn't show ads. Free users on the website may see one "Our sponsor" link, which can be an affiliate link: if you tap it, that partner knows you came from Vernaculator and may pay us if you sign up. We don't share anything else with them. We don't use Google services or tracking cookies. The only storage is the settings, saved words and restore code kept on your own device.
5. Children and teens
Vernaculator isn't directed at children under 13. Vernaculator is PG for everyone, and users under 13 may not post community content. If you believe a child under 13 sent us personal information, email [email protected] and we'll delete it.
Teen accounts (14 to 17). When a parent adds a teen in Family, we keep the first name or nickname and age the parent enters, the teen's device id once linked, the daily allowance, and how many tokens the teen used each day. The parent can see the teen's token use and any The Slam clips the teen submits. We don't ask teens for an email, phone number or payment details. Removing the teen in Family deletes this record; clips already posted stay until removed on request.
6. How long we keep it
Daily-limit counters expire within about a day. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for taxes, refunds and restoring your purchase. Community submissions and The Slam clips stay until removed by moderation or at your request.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to certain uses. Clearing your browser's site data removes everything stored on your device. To make a request, email [email protected].
